About The Association of German-American Societies of Greater Washington, D.C.

A.G.A.S. is a dual status non-profit organization which was formed in 1963 and incorporated in 1968. The purpose of the association is to promote recognition and preservation of Germanic cultural heritage in America. It achieves its objectives through the preservation and promotion of German music, folk dance and traditions, the documenting of the importance of Germanic heritage in America, participation in cultural exchange and educational programs designed to enhance recognition and appreciation of Germanic heritage, and promotion of scholarship activities in the areas of German history and language.

Donations specifically designated for the educational fund are tax-deductible as the fund has a 501.C.3 status separate from other AGAS activities which bear an IRS 501.C.4 status.
