About G.A.F. Society Oregon
The G.A.F. Society Oregon operates Oak Shade Grove, a comprehensive cultural and event venue serving the German-American and Swiss-American communities of Oregon, OH and the greater Toledo region. As the organization behind the largest ethnic festival in Northwest Ohio, the G.A.F. Society provides extensive facilities and services designed to celebrate and preserve Germanic heritage. The society manages a 94-acre property that hosts the annual three-day German-American Festival each August, drawing nearly 10,000 visitors daily during the event. Beyond the festival, Oak Shade Grove offers professional venue rental services for private events, featuring The Chalet indoor hall accommodating up to 275 guests and the Schwabenhalle outdoor picnic pavilion for larger gatherings. The organization also operates the Black Forest Cafe, an on-site restaurant offering authentic German and Swiss cuisine in a traditional atmosphere. Founded in 1966 by seven ethnic societies—American Turners Toledo, Bavarian Benevolent Society, Bavarian Sports Club, Greater Beneficial Union, Teutonia Männerchor, Toledo Schwaben Verein, and United Swiss—the G.A.F. Society was officially incorporated as a nonprofit organization in 1967. The society's mission centers on perpetuating cultural, athletic, and scholastic achievement while providing member societies with a permanent home. Located at 3624 Seaman Road in Oregon, Ohio, the G.A.F. Society continues its legacy of uniting communities through cultural celebration and providing quality facilities for both festival events and private gatherings.
