About Edelweiss Club of Grand Rapids
The Edelweiss Club of Grand Rapids is a vibrant German-American social organization dedicated to promoting and celebrating authentic German culture through a diverse array of engaging activities and events. Based in Grand Rapids, MI, the club offers members and the community opportunities to participate in singing, dancing, biking, hiking, picnicking, and cultural celebrations that bring the spirit of Germany to West Michigan. As a non-profit 501(c)(4) social welfare organization, the Edelweiss Club has been instrumental in organizing Oktoberfest West Michigan since 1982, an annual festival held at Riverside Park during the last full weekend of September. This signature event features a traditional beer tent, authentic German cuisine, live German music, dancing, wine, and the genuine atmosphere of Munich's famous celebration. The club welcomes individuals interested in experiencing gemütlichkeit—the German concept of good times shared with good friends. Operating from their home base at the Latvian Hall in central Grand Rapids, conveniently located off I-196 between College and Diamond avenues, the organization hosts regular meetings and social functions accessible to both members and the public. With membership exceeding 160 individuals, the Edelweiss Club continues the vision established by its ten founding members in December 1980, who believed a progressive, family-oriented German cultural organization would enrich the Greater Grand Rapids community. Whether attending Oktoberfest West Michigan or participating in regular club activities, members and guests experience a welcoming environment dedicated to preserving and sharing German heritage.
