About Cincinnati Donauschwaben Society
The Cincinnati Donauschwaben Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and promoting German language and culture in Cincinnati, OH. Founded in 1954, the organization serves the local community through authentic cultural programming including traditional dance, music, song, and period dress. The Cincinnati Donauschwaben Society operates multiple cultural groups designed to engage members across all age ranges, from the Kleine Kindergruppe for young children through the Senioren Gruppe for older adults. The organization maintains specialized groups including the Schuhplattler dancers, Trachtengruppe in traditional dress, Jugendgruppe for youth, and Frauengruppe for women. Beyond cultural activities, the Cincinnati Donauschwaben Society provides reception hall and pavilion rental services for community events and celebrations. The organization is recognized as Cincinnati's home of authentic Oktoberfest celebrations and features some of the region's most accomplished German dancers. As part of the worldwide Donauschwaben movement, the Cincinnati chapter plays a vital role in ensuring the survival and prosperity of Central European German heritage that was nearly lost following World War II. The society creates a welcoming, family-friendly environment that encourages intergenerational participation and cultural exchange among members of all backgrounds.
