The German American Society of New Braunfels was founded in the late 1970’s by a group of German immigrants and their descendants to uphold the customs and traditions of our forefathers and the rich culture they brought with them to the New World.
The purpose of the society is to encourage the use of the German language, to identify and preserve the valuable elements in our Texas culture contributed by the Germans in this great State, to encourage German American exchange, and to promote activities within the community that reflect cultural values of German origin.
Participation in annual festivals is of high priority. The Society participates in the Folk Fest at the Heritage Plaza, Wine & Saengerfest in the Town Square, the Wurstfest on the banks of the Comal River, and the Annual Picnic in Landa Park just to name a few. Our annual Maskenball (Costume Ball) is a very well attended affair, as is our Weihnachtsfest (Christmas Party).
In addition, the New Braunfels German American Society is a co-sponsor of the Edelweiss Kinder Chor von New Braunfels. This group of children, ages 5-13, is dedicated to preserving the German Heritage through the singing of traditional songs at various community functions.
The New Braunfels German American Society is a non-profit organization registered in the State of Texas. We are proud of being sponsors to many events and cultural offerings. We are the sponsors of Deutsche Sprachschule, where the German language is taught to children and adults in the New Braunfels area.
The German-American Society of New Braunfels is an apolitical social society with a membership open to all persons regardless of race, religion, political affiliation, and national origin. Come join one of our monthly meetings. We meet the 1st Tuesday of every month, presently at the New Braunfels Elks Lodge #2279, 353 South Seguin Ave, New Braunfels, TX.
We also encourage you to become a member of our society and learn more about the German Heritage of our town.
